Heyward-Washington House - An Entertaining Perspective The Heyward-Washington House is known as "Charleston's Revolutionary War House." The house was built in 1772 for Thomas Heyward, Jr, an active participant in the events of the Revolution. He was one of four South Carolinians who signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. He also served with patriot military forces after returning to South Carolina, acting with distinction under General William Moultrie. However, just in time for the holidays, the focus will change for these special tours. See elaborate table settings and period appropriate faux food throughout the various entertaining spaces within the house. Tour the c. 1740 kitchen building and learn about open hearth cooking. Visit the laundry area, servants' quarters, and auxiliary kitchen herb garden.
