The Dining Room at Woodlands appoints Nate Whiting As Its New Executive Chef
For Immediate Release, September 2008
Young chef to continue restaurant's tradition as breeding ground for culinary excellence.
The Dining Room at Woodlands, South Carolina's only Mobil Five Star and AAA Five Diamond restaurant, today appointed Nate Whiting as its new executive chef.
Whiting, who has worked as the restaurant's sous chef for the past four years, will continue Woodlands' tradition of appointing talented young chefs to a position of prominence within the culinary industry.
"We are extremely excited about Nate's elevation," says Prem Devadas, president of Salamander Hospitality, the company which owns Woodlands. "He's talented, passionate and a superb chef. We are lucky to have him at Charleston's dining destination."
Woodlands Resort & Inn is one of only three properties in North America to hold the Mobil Five Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings for both accommodations and dining.
Whiting previously worked at the acclaimed Peninsula Grill in Charleston, SC, under Chef Bob Carter. A graduate of Johnson and Wales University, Whiting has also staged (interned) at the Inn at Little Washington, VA; and Maestro, Washington, D.C.
"I'm looking forward to continuing to produce the type of New American cuisine for which Woodlands has become renowned," says Whiting. "Woodlands offers such a special dining experience, one that is unique in the South."
Whiting replaces Tarver King, who is moving to work for Hilltoppers restaurant in Northern Virginia, the area from which his family originally hails.
"Nate is a fabulous choice to continue the level of excellence that has long been established at Woodlands," says King. "He is an aspiring young chef with fabulous talent and an incredible passion for what he does."
