For Immediate Release, April 2008

The Inn at Middleton Place was among only two hotels in South Carolina to make National Geographic Traveler's (NGT) first-ever, annual "Stay List". The April 2008 issue's "Stay List" celebrates 150 hotels in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean region that are among the best at blending location-inspired architecture, ambience and amenities, eco-stewardship and an ethic of giving back to the community.
"It's thrilling to see how many folks in the accommodations business truly care about offering guests a sense-of-place experience," says Traveler Senior Editor Sheila Feldman Buckmaster. "The hotels and inns that made it onto the list give back to the community, work to conserve and sustain, and - day in and day out - celebrate the very best that their destinations have to offer."
To assemble the "Stay List" NGT put out a call for hotel nominations to people far and wide, from local travel experts to seasoned travelers. In-depth questionnaires were compiled from the more than 600 properties nominated, narrowing the list down to the top 150. As mentioned in the NGT article, the properties are "...a diverse lot, from rustic to luxurious, dirt cheap to splurge. A sense of place and a sweet night's sleep."
Organized by country, state and city, the NGT "Stay List" is a list that travelers will refer to repeatedly when making their travel plans. The Inn is described in the article as "Architectural sleekness on bluffs of Ashley River that lets nature do the talking: Cypress paneling and mission-style desks bring out colors of trees, and floor-to-ceiling windows reveal surrounding woodlands."
The Inn at Middleton Place is located adjacent to Middleton Place National Historic Landmark - home to America's Oldest Landscaped Gardens, the Plantation Stableyards and House Museum. Guests of the Inn enjoy admission to Middleton Place (included in room rate) as well as a hot southern breakfast and evening reception. Kayaking, bicycling and horseback riding are just a few of the activities offered to guests. Leisure and business groups alike enjoy the spacious meeting facilities, fantastic dining options and team building with certified instructors on-site. Seasonal rates range from $179-$400.
